Psycho-educational Assessments
Parents often wonder why their child struggles with homework, takes longer than expected to complete tasks or doesn’t seem to be able to perform up to their potential. These difficulties are probably the most common reason that people seek (or are referred) for a Psycho-educational Assessment. Until this person’s special needs are formally identified, he or she may become anxious, depressed or begin to complain or/and refuse to go to school. A Psycho-educational Assessment can be used to identify your child’s strengths and needs in order to help the child achieve his or her capability and realise their goals.
Such an evaluation provides substantially more information than traditional group testing and can tell important information about a child’s intellectual (IQ) or cognitive ability, achievement level, attention, visual-motor functioning and social-emotional functioning. A Psycho-educational Assessment can facilitate early intervention (which has been empirically documented to alleviate many childhood challenges) and help make school planning decisions.
At Alliance, we offer Psycho-educational assessments for children and adolescents from kindergarten (4 years of age) to high school/junior college (18 years of age). Dr. Melanie Chan, a registered child psychologist who specializes in assessments and behavioural concerns, conducts the assessments. There are three assessments offered (please note that the tests listed below are the tools recommended by schools and governmental agencies):
Comprehensive Diagnostic Assessment
Career/School planning Assessment
